Fingerless Gloves are Everywhere!

You've probably noticed how popular fingerless gloves are this season! Actually, they are perfect for dialing your cell phone, typing blog posts outdoors on location, or shopping at open air markets and craftshows.



Here are a few more photos showing the styles that I recently designed and knit.

These were knit with Noro Kureyon 100% wool, hand-dyed in Japan. Each skein produces 1 pair of gloves, but each glove will look completely different because of the color sequence.

Knitting Update on Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

With all of this snow, I've been knitting, knitting, and knitting! Here's some of my latest knitting projects. I've been working on a sweater vest using Noro Kureyon wool yarn. The colors are always so interesting. When you knit a sweater or vest with this yarn, it's a good idea to try and match the verigations of the colors. It's not mandatory for a short vest like I'm working on, but definitely if you are working on sleeves, for example, and you want to make sure they match.

Here's the pattern from Noro Mini Knits:

I'm knitting socks for my mother and she likes white. These are knit with soft super wash Merino wool.

The ankle cuff is knit 2 purl 2 ribbing.

It's an Ann Norling basic sock pattern.

Here's another neckwarmer that I'm working on. It's a fair isle pattern stitch with chocolate brown and winter sky blue yarn, fingering weight. I'm getting back into the multi-color knitting from my Norwegian sweater knitting days.

Don't eat too much chocolate today!

Seasons of Yarn

It's that time of year to start knitting, crocheting, and weaving. When you have lived in Vermont for as long as I did, the seasons of yarn crafts were something to look forward to. When it starts to get cold and there's the first snow, you need to stay warm and knitting is a great way to feel cozy and warm.

It's life transforming when you are able to attend a knitting bee in an old Vermont farmhouse, eat pumpkin soup and homemade bread, drink tea, and -- of course -- you knit something! Click, click, click go the needles, conversation, crackling fire, warmth, the smell of apple pie, and snow flurries!



Above you will see my latest fun-and-easy-to-wear neckwarmer, made with Noro 100% self-striping wool. Noro yarn is made in small batches in Japan by a very regal and nostalgic wool designer. Each batch is unique and special.

Also, take a look at the skinny scarf shown below. It's so soft and fluffy, light and warm too. This scarf is definitely a show-stopper! Very pretty and fashionable too. It's knit with turquoise alpaca yarn and calypso eyelash yarn, which creates a fun texture.

Including the fringe, this scarf measures 82" long by 2" wide. Wrap it around your neck a few times to create a fuzzy neckwarmer, wear it as a sash, or simply tie a French knot for a Parisian look.

Noro Yarn and Dog Fashion

Have you tried knitting with Noro Yarn yet? It's the latest "striping" yarn made in Japan. The colors are usually very calming , natural looking, and yummy. The yarn type chosen for this handknit dog sweater is made of 100% wool yarn from Noro, but you can also choose from other blends with silk and wool, mohair and wool, and a few others in different weights. As you knit, it naturally stripes, and ... if you weave it - you get a plaid! I will post a picture of my newest woven shawl very soon. The next time you go to your favorite yarn shop, ask for Noro.

Here is Tinker, a cute Min-Pin (Miniature Pinscher) from Pennsylvania, wearing an extra-small dog sweater from Fiona Couture Designs. The sweater is soft, very light, and keeps her very warm. Tinker is a very good girl and a very fashionable doggie!
